Shama superSHEro's next exciting workshop is a session on Self-Defence facilitated by Mel Goodin of Kia Haumaru - personal safety education. We promise you will take away heaps of empowering ways to protect yourself

Kia Haumaru’s kōrero covers healthy relationships, early warning signs of interpersonal violence, and self-care. Emphasis is placed on trusting your instincts, knowing your rights and using your voice. Verbal strategies include positive assertiveness and boundary-setting skills to stop a harmful situation before it becomes physical. Trigger warning as the course will talk about abusive relationships and gender-based violence.

The physical safety techniques are simple, easy to learn and highly effective against a bigger, stronger attacker. They are adapted to suit all abilities, ages, and fitness levels.

Cis and trans wāhine are welcome, as well as non-binary people who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of women.
